Temporary Residence Permit (Non-EU Citizens)

Other categories may apply in-country. Non-EU/EEA nationals who wish to stay in Slovenia for more than 3 months must apply for a temporary residence permit. First-time applications for work-based permits must be submitted at the Slovenian embassy or consulate in the applicant's home country. The permit includes a biometric residence card (cost approx. EUR 102 for the permit + EUR 15.47 for the card). The permit is issued for the duration of the reason (typically 1-2 years) and must be renewed.

Personal Master Citizen Number and Tax Number (EMSO / Davcna Stevilka)

Health Insurance Registration (ZZZS)
MANDATORYEU + Non-EUHealth Insurance Registration (ZZZS) in Slovenia: Employed: from the first day of work (employer registers). Self-employed: within 15 days of starting activity. All legal residents who are employed or self-employed in Slovenia are required to enroll in the compulsory health insurance scheme of the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (Zavod za zdravstveno zavarovanje Slovenije, ZZZS). Employed persons are enrolled by their employer. Self-employed and economically inactive persons register themselves. Contributions: 6.36% employee + 6.56% employer of gross salary. The ZZZS covers 80-90% of most medical costs; supplementary insurance (prostovoljno dopolnilno zdravstveno zavarovanje) covers the remaining co-payment.

Tax Registration (FURS)

Slovenian Bank Account

Major banks include NLB (Nova Ljubljanska Banka), NKBM, SKB Banka, and Delavska Hranilnica. Most require EMSO and residence registration.

Slovenian Digital Identity (SI-PASS and eUprava)

Set up SI-PASS as soon as you have your Slovenian ID card or residence permit to access all e-government services via euprava.gov.si. SI-PASS is Slovenia's digital identity system giving access to eUprava (e-government portal), eDavki (FURS tax portal), social security records, and official document requests. smsPASS (SMS OTP linked to your EMSO and Slovenian SIM) is the easiest activation method.

Vehicle Registration (DRSI)

Permanent Residence (5-Year Certificate / Long-Term Permit)

Driving Licence Exchange
