Residence Registration (Prihlásenie na prechodný pobyt)

Foreign Police Department (Oddelenie cudzineckej polície)

Deadline: Register within 10 days of arrival for stays over 3 months
Processing Time: Certificate issued within 30 days of application.

📅Appointment: No appointment system in most offices. Queue-based — arrive early.
Required Documents:
  • Valid passport or EU/EEA national ID card
  • Proof of accommodation — rental contract or declaration from property owner (with verified signature)
  • Proof of employment (work contract) OR proof of self-employment (živnostenský list) OR proof of sufficient funds and health insurance
  • 2 passport-sized photos (30x35mm)
  • Completed application form (available at the police department)
Where to Do It:

Foreign Police Department (Cudzinecká polícia) in your district. Bratislava: Regrútska 4, 842 60. Also in Košice, Prešov, Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Nitra, Trnava, Trenčín.

If You Don't Do It:

Fines of up to approximately €300 for late registration. May not be able to access Slovak healthcare (VZP), tax system, or employment without registration.

Regional Variations: Bratislava has the busiest office with longest waits.

Assigned at the Foreign Police Department. The 10-digit Rodné číslo is your identifier for all Slovak systems (tax, healthcare, social insurance).

If You Don't Do It:

May not be able to function in the Slovak administrative system without it.

Deadline: Within 30 days of receiving income in Slovakia
Processing Time: 10–30 working days

Local Tax Office (Daňový úrad). Bratislava: multiple offices. Also in every regional capital.

If You Don't Do It:

Fines of up to approximately €20,000 for failing to register when required. May not be able to be legally employed without tax registration.
